  मकड़ी अपने शिकार को फंसाने के लिए जाल बुनती है। छोटे-छोटे कीड़े इस जाल में आसानी से फंस जाते हैं। इन कीड़ों का जाल से निकलना काफी मुश्किल होता है। लेकिन आपने कभी गौर से देखा होगा तो पाया होगा कि मकड़ी खुद उस जाल में एक-जगह से दूसरे जगह आसानी से घूम लेती है। क्या आपको पता है कि ऐसा क्यों होता है? मकड़ी का पूरा जाल चिपकने वाले नहीं होता है। वह इसका कुछ ही हिस्सा चिपचिपा बुनती है। वहीं, इसके अलावा वैसा हिस्सा जहां मकड़ी खुद आराम से रहती है, वह बिना चिपचिपे पदार्थ के बनाया जाता है। इसलिए वह आसानी से इसमें घूम लेती है। वैसे अपने ही जाल में फंसने से बचने के लिए मकड़ी एक और तरकीब निकालती है। वह रोजाना अपने पैर काफी अच्छे से साफ करती है ताकि इन पर लगी धूल और दूसरे कण निकल जाएं। कुछ वैज्ञानिक मानते हैं कि मकड़ी का पैर तैलीय होता है इसलिए वह जाल में नहीं फंसती और इसमें घूमती रहती है। लेकिन सच यह है कि मकड़ियों के पास ऑयल ग्लैंड्स (ग्रंथियां) नहीं होते हैं। वहीं कुछ वैज्ञानिक इसकी वजह मकड़ी की टांगों पर मौजूद बालों को मानते हैं जिन पर जाले की चिपचिपाहट का कोई असर नहीं होता है।
